The theme for this edition was \u201c<em><strong>Innovations to support market development and promote the sustainability of cocoa farming for better farmer income<\/strong>\u201d. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>The symposium attracted approximately 600 attendees from around 250 organizations, including research institutions, private and public sector institutions, government and civil society organisations. 40 nationalities were represented.<\/p>\n<p>In terms of cocoa research, 400 abstracts were received and reviewed by the ISCR Scientific Committee. Out of these, 75 were selected for oral presentations and 135 for poster presentations.<\/p>\n<p>The objectives of this edition were:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Provide <strong>a platform for the cocoa community and scientists <\/strong>to exchange on the latest research findings<\/li>\n<li>Present <strong>advances in technology and innovations <\/strong>in the cocoa sector<\/li>\n<li>Analyse the <strong>potential impact of research results <\/strong>for the cocoa sector and farmer income<\/li>\n<li>Provide <strong>practical <\/strong>and <strong>relevant recommendations <\/strong>to the cocoa sector<\/li>\n<li><strong>Disseminate the results of this second edition of the ISCR<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Agree on priorities for collective action<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition, the symposium focused on three thematic areas as follows:<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><br \/>\n<div During this second edition, more than 400 papers were received and evaluated by the Scientific Committee, out of which 75 were selected for oral presentations and 135 for poster presentations. Over 3 days, experts from various scientific fields exchanged views on the progress achieved in cocoa research.<\/p>\n<p>The symposium agreed on a set of key recommendations to accelerate the pace of development in the global cocoa sector, in particular as relevant to cocoa research. Climate change adaptation and mitigation, food safety and Cadmium in particular were identified as major growing concerns for the cocoa sector that needed to be addressed urgently.<\/p>\n<p>The symposium emphasized the need to have more innovative platforms to better share information on cocoa research and to make results of that research easily accessible to all cocoa stakeholders, particularly cocoa farmers who should be the main focus and recipients of the said results.
